Red Lobster Chain to Make Restaurants Look More Like Maine Seafood Spots

A national chain of seafood restaurants with little presence in New England is going to be remodeling its eateries, with Downeast Maine as a major influence.

According to Zagat Buzz, Red Lobster plans to update their restaurants, basing the new look on the overall feel of the village of Bar Harbor, a popular seaside destination on Mount Desert Island that is a jumping-off point for visitors to nearby Acadia National Park. The photo that is posted on Zagat Buzz gives a peek at the remodel, and it looks like Red Lobster will have a combination seafood shack/family restaurant environment, with lots of wood used throughout, hanging nautical-style lamps above the tables, and pictures of ocean scenes on the walls. Zagat mentions that the upgrades should be finished by 2014.

Red Lobster first started out in Florida in the late 1960s and has since grown to include nearly 700 restaurants throughout the country and in Canada. There are currently no Red Lobster locations in the Boston area, and only four in New England, all of them being in Connecticut.

Red Lobster is part of the Darden family of restaurants which includes Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, and The Capital Grille.
