The Painted Burro Is Opening in Somerville's Davis Square

[Ed note: This is a follow-up to yesterday's story on Gargoyles on the Square.]

A Mexican restaurant is going to be opening in the Davis Square section of Somerville, moving into the space where a soon-to-close upscale dining spot currently resides.

According to The Somerville Journal and Wicked Local, The Painted Burro plans to open on Elm Street, taking over the spot where Gargoyles on the Square is. (As mentioned yesterday, Gargoyles will be closing on September 20 after being in business for 16 years.) The article mentions that the person behind the nearby Pizzeria Posto on Elm Street will be opening the Mexican eatery, which looks to be "a fun neighborhood restaurant that's based on cuisine from Oaxaca, Mexico" with offerings including tacos and margaritas.

Expect a late fall opening for The Painted Burro.

[March 8, 2012 update: Grub Street Boston reports that The Painted Burro is planning to open on Monday, March 19.]

[March 14, 2012 update: A new article from Grub Street Boston states that The Painted Burro will be opening for "walk-ins" today, starting at 6:00 PM.]

The address for this new Mexican restaurant in Davis Square is: The Painted Burro, 219 Elm Street, Somerville, MA, 02144.
