Chef Chang's Is Opening in Former Wine Cellar Spot in Boston's Back Bay

Last week we reported that a fondue restaurant in Boston's Back Bay of Boston had shut its doors. Now we have learned that a new dining spot may be moving into the space, and the place has a familiar name.

The Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog is reporting (via a Licensing Board page on the City of Boston website) that Chef Chang's is looking to open on Mass. Ave., taking over the space where The Wine Cellar had been until recently. According to Boston Hospitality, the full name could be "Chef Chang's House on Back Bay," which has a similar name to a Brookline spot called Chef Chang's House that closed in January of 2010 (Sichuan Gourmet is in that space now).

A hearing on a liquor license transfer from The Wine Cellar to Chef Chang's will take place on Wednesday, January 22.

[August 7 update: Eater Boston states that Chef Chang's on Back Bay is now open, with the restaurant featuring Szechuan and Northern Chinese fare. (It is still not known if there is a connection to the now-closed Chef Chang's House in Brookline.)]

The address for the now-closed Wine Cellar (and new Chef Chang's) is 30 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA, 02115.
