A New Tavern Is Opening in Belmont

A new tavern is coming to a western suburb of Boston, and one of the people involved with a downtown Boston restaurant is also involved with this spot.

An article in the Belmont Citizen-Herald indicates that Kevin Treanor of The Merchant on Franklin Street is teaming up with Mark and Tara Gowrie to open a dining and drinking spot in Belmont within Cushing Village, an upcoming development that will be in Cushing Square near the Watertown line. The article mentions that the 5,000-square-foot place--which does not yet appear to have a name--will focus on "quality food" and has the aforementioned connection to The Merchant, an American brasserie that opened its doors in March of this year.

Once it opens, Cushing Village will be a residential complex near the corner of Trapelo Road and Common Street with 115 luxury apartment units and some retail/commercial space that could also include a grocery store, based on information from the Citizen-Herald and the development's website.

[October 3 update: A message from The Merchant indicates that the new tavern in Belmont might not be opening until 2017.]
