Papagayo Is Opening in Saugus

The group behind several Mexican restaurants in the Boston area is going to be opening yet another, with this one being north of the city.

Based on its website, Papagayo is planning to open a new location in Saugus, joining existing ones at Fort Point in Boston, Downtown Crossing, City Square in Charlestown [ed note--now closed], and Assembly Row in Somerville. It is not known when exactly the new spot will open--or where in Saugus it will open--with the website simply saying "coming soon."

[January 6, 2015 update: According to Cappy in Boston, the new Papagayo will be moving into the old Border Cafe space at 819 Broadway (Route 1), which is just north of the former Hilltop Steak House. (Border Cafe is now located at 356 Broadway.)]

[June 9 update: Papagayo opens in Saugus today, and as noted in the article on the Charlestown location closing, the management team from that location is behind this one.]

The Legendary Restaurant Group, which runs the Papagayo dining spots, also operates such local spots as Max and Dylans, Scollay Square, Burger Dive, Sip Wine Bar, and Avery Provisions. Its website can be found at http://legendaryrg.com/ while the website for Papagayo is at http://papagayorestaurants.com/
