The Patriot Bar in South Boston Is Closing; May Sell Liquor License to Worden Hall

A South Boston bar that recently took over the space where another pub had been for nearly 25 years may be closing, as it is planning to sell its liquor license to a proposed new restaurant that would be located down the street.

An article from Universal Hub confirms what a Twitter post from Donna Goodison of The Boston Herald mentioned last week, that The Patriot (formerly The Blackthorn Pub) near the W Broadway/Dorchester Street intersection is looking to transfer its liquor license to a dining spot called Worden Hall, which would also be on W Broadway near the Broadway T station. According to UH, the person behind the proposed restaurant is Dylan Welsh, who runs Five Horses Tavern in Somerville's Davis Square and Boston's South End.

It is not yet known when The Patriot might close, nor is it known when Worden Hall may open; as soon as we get more information, we will post an update here.

The address for The Patriot is 471 W Broadway, while the address for the proposed Worden Hall is 22 W. Broadway.

[April 22, 2015 update: According to several Facebook posts from the bar, The Patriot in South Boston is now closed, having shut down over the past weekend.]
