Update: Licensing Board Temporarily Shuts Down Stats Bar and Grille in South Boston, Will Reopen

[Ed note: This article was updated to reflect the fact that it is a temporary closure.]

A sports bar in South Boston has been closed by the city, though it appears to be temporary.

According to a photo posted on twitter, Stats Bar & Grille on Dorchester Street is now shuttered, with a sign out front saying "Closed! By order of licensing board for the City of Boston." This comes on the heels of chatter within the restaurant industry this week that indeed included talk about the licensing board closing the dining and drinking spot. [UPDATE: According to an article from Eater Boston, it looks like the closure stemmed from some sort of paperwork issue with the licensing office, and that Stats will reopen for lunch today, close again tonight, then be open normal hours starting tomorrow.]

Stats Bar & Grille first opened in Southie in the summer of 2010, joining J. A. Stats Restaurant and Bar on Broad Street in downtown Boston. (J. A. Stats is no longer in operation, with the space now being home to Barney Fanning's.)

The address for Stats is 77 Dorchester Street, South Boston, MA, 02127; its website can be found at http://www.statsboston.com/
