Chipotle to Close for Food Safety Meeting Today, Offer Free Burritos to Everyone

A national chain of Mexican dining spots is closed until 3:00 PM today for a food safety meeting--and it is also offering free food to all in the wake of recent outbreaks of food-borne illnesses.

According to a source from over the weekend--and confirmed by multiple posts across social media--Chipotle is offering coupons for free burritos to everyone today, with customers simply having to text the word "raincheck" to the company and receiving an email for the coupon. Our source tells us that the chain hopes to give away 250 million burritos via this promotion.

Chipotle has been in the news over recent times, as it has struggled with issues stemming from foodborne illnesses including a multi-state E. coli outbreak and a norovirus outbreak that happened at the Cleveland Circle location in Brighton in December.
