Dempsey's Bar and Grill in Hyde Park Sold to Developer

A couple of months ago, we reported that a huge Italian emporium that is coming to Boston's Back Bay was hoping to purchase a liquor license from a tiny dive bar in one of the city's neighborhoods. Now we have learned that the place has been sold.

According to a post from the Bldup site, Dempsey's Bar and Grill in Hyde Park was purchased by developer Chris Lydon for $300,000, based on a deed that was recorded in the Suffolk Registry of Deeds this morning. There is no information given on what the plans are for the River Street property, though an article posted last summer by Universal Hub stated that at the time, Lydon was planning to keep the bar as is, with some changes possibly coming at some point.

In December, it was learned that Mario Batali's Eataly might be getting its liquor license from Dempsey's for a possible price of $385,000 (the quote given at the time), though no news has been given on the transfer of late.

The address for Dempsey's Bar and Grill is 1185 River Street, Hyde Park, MA, 02136.
