Update: La Provence in Concord Is Closing; New Restaurant May Move In

[Ed note: This article was updated on August 15 to reflect the fact that a new dining spot may move into the space.]

A French bakery and cafe that has been around for nearly two decades is shutting down.

The Concord Journal is reporting that La Provence in Concord closes its doors for good today, as owner Robert Didier is dealing with health issues that are forcing him to retire from the business. The article says that Didier will go to France for a few weeks once he closes the Thoreau Street restaurant, then he will return home to spend some "quality time" with his wife, which he is looking forward to after many years of long hours spent at the restaurant.

Didier, who was born in France, first opened La Provence 18 years ago; the dining spot featured baked goods, pastries, sandwiches, meals such as coq au vin, and more.

The address for La Provence is 105 Thoreau Street, Concord, MA, 01742.

[August 15 update: It appears that the person behind Karma Restaurant in Andover and Westford is going to be opening a high-end sushi fusion spot in the space where La Provence had been, though it is not yet known whether it will be another location of Karma. (This information was sent to us by Corbett Restaurant Group, who sold the property and were also behind the sales of Andiamo in Chelmsford and The Tilted Kilt in Billerica.)]
