Chicken and Rice Guys Replacing Cheeseboy in Boston's Downtown Crossing

The people behind a group of food trucks and brick-and-mortar restaurants are opening yet another permanent spot, and it is replacing a location of a grilled cheese place.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Chicken & Rice Guys will be opening in Boston's Downtown Crossing, while a Facebook post indicates that it is moving into the Cheeseboy space on Washington Street and that Cheeseboy closed that shop for good on December 1. The Facebook post includes something intriguing, that "we've made the bold decision to close Downtown Crossing and reopen next month as a Chicken & Rice Guys restaurant," while the LinkedIn page for Cheeseboy founder Michael Inwald says that Cheeseboy was "sold to a Boston-based restaurant group in 2016." We have reached out to the Chicken & Rice Guys to confirm that they are indeed the new owners of Cheeseboy; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

EB says that the new Chicken & Rice Guys plans to have a "Grand Hatching" for its new shop on January 21, with the restaurant joining other brick-and-mortars in Boston's Financial District, Allston, and Medford (and a pop-up at the Prudential Center), along with food trucks in various parts of the Boston area.

Cheeseboy's South Station shop closed this fall, which means that its only location remaining in the Greater Boston area is in Natick.

The address for the upcoming Chicken & Rice Guys (and the now-closed Cheeseboy) is 280 Washington Street, Boston, MA, 02108. The website for all locations of Chicken & Rice Guys can be found at http://cnrguys.com/ while the website for the remaining locations of Cheeseboy is at http://cheeseboy.com/
