Panera on Boston University’s West Campus Is Closing; High Rents Cited

A location of a national chain of bakery-cafes that is on a college campus in Boston is shutting down, and it appears that the reason is a financial one.

The Daily Free Press is reporting that Panera at Boston University's West Campus is closing for good on May 21, with assistant manager Chrissy Fearing saying that "Basically, the rent is too high, and we're not making enough money to cover everything." The Commonwealth Avenue shop, which is popular with both BU students and faculty, is not directly affiliated with the university, according to the article.

It is not yet known what might happen with the space; as soon as we get any additional information, we will post an update here.

The address for the soon-to-close Panera by BU is 888 Commonwealth Ave Brookline, MA 02115. The website for the Panera chain can be found at https://www.panerabread.com/
