Smith & Wollensky Is Opening in Former Blue Ginger Space in Wellesley

A group of steakhouses based in the Boston area is opening its first suburban location, and it will be moving into a space that had been home to an award-winning spot owned by a celebrity chef.

According to a press release, Smith & Wollensky is opening in Wellesley, with the address indicating that it will be taking over the former Blue Ginger space on Washington Street. It appears that the new location of the steakhouse--which will join others at "The Castle" in Boston's Back Bay, Atlantic Wharf along the waterfront, and a handful of others in the U.S. and in London--will be opening in early 2018.

Blue Ginger shut down last June, with owner Ming Tsai indicating that the decision was made in part because of his plan to start a new quick-service stir-fry concept called ChowStirs. (His other restaurant--Blue Dragon in Boston's Fort Point--remains open for business.)

The address for the new outlet of Smith & Wollensky in Wellesley is 583 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA, 02482. The website for all locations can be found at http://www.smithandwollensky.com/

[May 8, 2018 update: According to a press release, the new Smith & Wollensky in Wellesley is opening for dinner service on May 24, with lunch being offered starting May 29.]
