Idle Hour Taking Over Former Clash of the Ash Space in Quincy

[Ed note: This article was updated on May 18, 2018, to reflect a name given for the place.]

A brand new restaurant is on its way to Quincy, taking over the space where an Irish pub had been until its license was taken away by the city.

According to a Facebook post from Kerry Byrne of KJB Trending Hospitality, a new dining spot with the working name "Triumph" is opening on Hancock Street, moving into the former Clash of the Ash space in the downtown area. The person behind the upcoming restaurant is Mathew Freid, who comes from such spot as Capo Restaurant in South Boston, The Beehive in the South End, and jm Curley in Downtown Crossing, and his plan is to focus on New American fare with Asian and other international influences, while the place will apparently be an upscale/higher-end eatery that is also "fun and accessible" and will have a bar with an old-school vibe. If all goes as planned, the new restaurant--which will likely have another name when it opens--could debut in the spring of 2018.

Clash of the Ash was stripped of its liquor license in January following its being cited for serving alcohol to a minor; the city's license board had also voted to take away the bar's license for the same charge in April of 2016 but a ruling allowed it to remain open.

The address for this upcoming restaurant in Quincy Center is 1464 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA, 02169.

[May 18, 2018 update: Boston Magazine states that the new spot replacing Clash of the Ash will be called Idle Hour and that it will be a retro cocktail bar with the kitchen being run by Ashley Gaboriault (Drink, Trina's Starlite Lounge).]

[July 5, 2018 update: According to a new message sent by Kerry Byrne, Idle Hour plans to open in August, and it will be a modern neighborhood bar with globally-inspired street food and "retro-Americana accents."]

[August 20, 2018 update: A comment from Kerry Byrne within the Quincy Is Everything Facebook group page indicates that Idle Hour hopes to open to the public on Wednesday, August 22.]

[August 23, 2018 update: After a one-day delay, Idle Hour opens today at 4:00 PM, according to an Instagram post.]
