Bistro 489 at Medford High School to Open to the Public

by Marc Hurwitz

A new restaurant is on its way to Medford, and its location is a rather unusual one.

According to an article in the Medford Transcript, Bistro 489 is opening to the public within Medford High School, with most of the workers at the dining spot being from Medford Vocational Technical High School. The post says that the restaurant will have seating for 120 people and that the space can be rented out for community or corporate events while the conference room can be rented out for meetings with catering offered.

Most of the work on the Bistro 489 space was done by students (with the help of the staff at Medford Tech and local labor unions), including installation of kitchen equipment, electrical, heating and ventilation systems, and a fire suppression system.

Medford High School is located at 489 Winthrop Street, between Medford Square and the Winchester border.

[October 15, 2018 update: The Medford Transcript states that Bistro 489 is now open, with breakfast being offered Wednesday through Friday and lunch being offered on Thursdays and Fridays.]
