The Hungry Traveler in Downtown Boston Has Closed

by Marc Hurwitz

A decades-old breakfast and lunch spot in the heart of Boston has shut down.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, The Hungry Traveler at Court Square (between Government Center and Downtown Crossing) is no longer in business, with another poster indicating that the owners were apparently unable to pay the rent, though this has not been confirmed. The dining spot featured such items as breakfast sandwiches, club sandwiches, and subs, and those in the know also went there for Korean fare such as kimchi soup, bulgogi, and bibimbap. (Restaurant critic and food/drinks writer MC Slim JB gave the place a best "secret" spot award in 2016 for The Improper Bostonian.)

The Hungry Traveler had been in business since at least the early 1980s, based on what another poster said.

The address for this now-closed restaurant in downtown Boston was: The Hungry Traveler, 29 Court Square, Boston, MA, 02108.
