Burrito Factory Plans to Open in Roslindale

It looks like a burrito place might be opening in a section of Boston that currently has very few options for burritos.

Universal Hub is reporting that the Burrito Factory is planning to open by the corner of Hyde Park Avenue and Canterbury Street in Roslindale, with the post saying that the Boston Licensing Board will look into the request from Teresa Munoz to open the eatery next Wednesday. Currently, the entire length of Hyde Park Avenue (nearly five miles) doesn't have one dining spot that focuses on burritos, according to UH.

According to a page within yellowpages.com, the address for the Burrito Factory would be 636 Hyde Park Avenue, Roslindale, MA, 02131.

John Pepper Resigns as CEO of Boloco

The CEO of a local chain of restaurants that features burritos has stepped down.

According to an article in BostInno, John Pepper has resigned from his position at Boloco, with the resignation taking place last month. The article mentions that a letter sent to folks at Boloco says that this was "the result of the termination of a deal between Boloco's current ownership and its new investors," with the deal falling apart at the last minute because "the two parties could not resolve their different views regarding control of the company." Despite the fact that Pepper (who is a co-founder of Boloco) is no longer the CEO, he remains optimistic that it will remain a strong company that is a good place to work.

It is not yet known what future projects John Pepper might be undertaking, but a quote within the article states that as far as Boloco is concerned, he will be "supporting from the sidelines," with the article saying that he could be an "owner, possible board member and chairman."

Locations of the Boloco chain can be found in Boston, Brighton, Cambridge, Lynnfield, Natick, Wellesley, Warwick, RI, Concord, NH, Hanover, NH, Burlington, VT, Bethesda, MD, and Washington, DC. Their website is at http://boloco.com/

A small local chain of restaurants that features burritos may be closing one of its locations in the Boston area.

According to Universal Hub, Boloco is closing on Boston Avenue in Medford after being in business for about five years. The article mentions that the reason for their closing of this location is due in part to the delay in the extension of the Green Line. [November 17 update: A note from the Boloco Facebook page indicates that the Medford location of the restaurant is hoping to remain open through the end of the year--and possibly longer depending on the amount of business the place does.]

USA Today Includes Anna's Taqueria Among Its Burrito Picks

On Friday, USA Today came out with an article on great places in America to get a burrito, and a small group of eateries in the Boston area made the list.

According to the article (which was based on picks from an editor at Thrillist.com, Anna's Taqueria was chosen as one of "10 great places to bite into a big burrito" partly because of its wide variety of meat options and also because its spicy green sauce "has a lot of nice zip" without being overly hot. The article also mentions the fact that the burritos at Anna's are made right in front of the customers.

Anna's Taqueria has six locations in and around Boston, including one in Boston, two in Brookline, two in Cambridge, and one in Somerville.

A couple of other places that were picked by USA Today include Dos Toros Taqueria in New York and Pedro & Vinny's in Washington, DC.
