Yet another new restaurant is coming to Cambridge's Kendall Square neighborhood, and this one will be headed up by the former chef at a now-closed Boston restaurant that had been one of the city's best-known fine-dining spots.
According to The Boston Globe, Catalyst is going to be opening at 300 Technology Square (by Main Street), with a possible August opening planned. The Globe mentions that the person behind the 86-seat eatery and function space is William Kovel, who used to be the head chef at Aujourd’hui, a high-end restaurant within the Four Seasons Hotel on Boylston Street by Boston Common and the Public Garden. Kovel is teaming up with California-based Alexandria Real Estate Equities in constructing Catalyst, which will also have a bar and a patio in addition to dining and function areas. The Globe states that the restaurant will cater at least in part to folks who work in Technology Square, as it will be set up for conferences and casual meetings alike.
Back in January we had written about another new restaurant coming to this section of Cambridge, namely Area IV, which will be opening at nearby 500 Technology Square. Several other new dining spots are planned for Kendall Square as well, including Kika Tapas, Abigail's Restaurant, Firebrand Saints, and Meadhall.

[September 7 update: According to the Thrillist site, Catalyst is hoping to open this Saturday (September 10).]
[September 8 update: More confirmation that Saturday appears to be the day that Catalyst opens, as UrbanDaddy has just posted an article (including a slideshow) mentioning this date.]
[September 12 update: Catalyst did not open on Saturday, September 10 after all, as a note on their Facebook page mentions that they are waiting for a liquor license. As of tonight, this continues to be the case; as soon as they receive the license and are ready to open, we will post another update here.]
[September 13 update: According to a new note on their Facebook page, Catalyst has received their liquor license and will be opening their doors tonight. Thanks to Grub Street Boston for bringing this to our attention.]
