Retro Burger and Ice Cream Is Opening in the Former Cakes Bakery Location in Arlington
[Ed note: This article was updated on June 18, as it is now known what will be moving into the former Cakes space.]
It looks like a new dining spot is on the way to Arlington, and it will be opening at the site where a bakery-cafe had been.
According to a post in the Arlington Advocate, the space that was vacated by Cakes Bakery and Cafe last summer will become the home to another spot, with the newspaper saying that "a casual eatery may be moving into 795 Mass. Ave." No other information has been given on the proposed place; as soon as we find out more information, we will post an update here.
[June 18 update: The Boston Globe states (via the Arlington Patch) that Retro Burger & Ice Cream will be moving from West Yarmouth on Cape Cod to the former Cakes location in Arlington. The owner of the eatery--Bill Maund--says that it may be opening sometime this summer. Expect to see burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and chili cheese fries on the menu. [July 23 update: Eater Boston mentions that Retro Burger & Ice Cream is now open in its new home in Arlington.]
Cakes Bakery and Cafe once had locations in Arlington, Milton, and Watertown, but all of them have closed down over the past year or so. The original spot in Milton had changed its name to Wild Flour, but it was seized by the state over the winter.
