Smashburger Is Opening in Medford

A Colorado-based chain of quick-casual burger restaurants is going to be opening a second location in the Greater Boston area, with this one being just north of the city.

The Medford Transcript is reporting that Smashburger is planning to open a shop in Medford, moving into a space within the Fellsway Plaza on Route 28. Once it opens, the new burger place will join another location in the Sherwood Plaza on Route 9 in Natick, which opened in December of 2013. The article says that several other locations of Smashburger may be coming to Massachusetts as well; as reported here earlier, one had been proposed for Cambridge's Central Square, but this one appears to have fallen through, at least for now.

Smashburger, which is based in Denver, first started out in 2007, featuring meatball-shaped patties that are "smashed" on the grill, helping to caramelize the beef and lock in the juices.

It looks like the Medford location of Smashburger may be opening in the second quarter of 2015, according to the Transcript.

Once it does open, this will be the third location of the chain to open in the Greater Boston area, as a second one opened earlier this year in Westwood.]
