Vlora in Boston's Back Bay Is Closing; Yamato II Is Taking Over the Space

It looks like a Mediterranean restaurant in the Back Bay of Boston is closing its doors, and a second location of a Brighton eatery could be taking over the space.

A licensing board page within the City of Boston website indicates that Vlora is planning to shut down at some point, with the dining spot looking to transfer its common victualler and liquor license to Yamato II, which would be a second location of Yamato, a Japanese restaurant on Chiswick Road (by Commonwealth Avenue) in Brighton. A hearing on the proposed transfer will take place this Wednesday.

Vlora first opened in 2007, offering such items as grilled octopus, hummus, veggie lasagna, roasted chicken, shrimp and couscous, chicken shish kebab, and lamb gyros. Yamato opened in 2011, offering sushi, teriyaki, noodle dishes, and more.

The address for Vlora (and the proposed Yamato II) is 545 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02116.

[May 4 update: According to a poster within the Chowhound website, Vlora has officially shuttered, with the restaurant's Facebook page confirming this, indicating that it closed down for good last month. This is one of a number of well-known Back Bay spots to close over the past several months, including Daisy Buchanan's, Forum, Skipjack's, 29 Newbury, and Cactus Club.]

[July 9 update: Eater Boston states that Yamato II is now open.]
