The Grapevine Restaurant in Salem Has Closed

A landmark dining spot on the North Shore has closed after more than a quarter century in business.

According to one of our readers (and confirmed by The Salem News), The Grapevine Restaurant in Salem is no longer in business, with the Salem news article indicating that the dining spot shuttered because it wasn't doing as much business as it had hoped to do. The Grapevine, which first opened on Congress Street in 1988, came under new ownership in 2012 and went from being mainly an Italian restaurant to more of a Mediterranean spot.

Earlier we had reported that chef Tim Caldwell of The Grapevine had purchased the space on Essex Street where The Old Spot had once been, though it is not yet known exactly what kind of place might open at that site.

The address for the now-closed Grapevine Restaurant was 26 Congress Street, Salem, MA, 01970.
