Cielo Mexican Restaurant Is Opening in Braintree

It looks like a Mexican restaurant is coming to the southern suburbs of Boston, and it will be opening along a small river.

According to its Facebook and Twitter pages, Cielo Mexican Restaurant is planning to open in Braintree, moving into the space on Washington Street where Viola Restaurant and Wine Bar had been until closing in the fall of 2012. The property is situated on the Monatiquot River--and Viola did have a small patio that overlooked the river--but it is not yet known whether Cielo will have a riverside patio as well.

As soon as we hear of an opening date for Cielo (and what will be on its menu), we will post an update here.

[June 15 update: According to an article in the Braintree Forum, Cielo has been granted a liquor license and a common victualler license and should be opening in approximately a month. The post also says that the new restaurant--which will serve "family-style" Mexican food--will have seating for 58 along with 16 additional seats on an outdoor patio.]

[October 20 update: Eater Boston states that Cielo is now open, with the menu including such items as huevos rancheros, burritos, flautas, tacos, enchiladas, and chilaquiles.]

The address for this Mexican dining spot in Braintree is: Cielo, 1209 Washington Street, Braintree, MA, 02184. Its website will be at http://www.cielomx.com/
