Tir Na Nog Now to Stay Open Through March

The latest news on Tir Na Nog in Somerville (thanks to the Boston Herald, MySpace, and Chowhound) is that it will remain open until around the end of March. After that, who knows what will happen? But at least they will be open for St. Patrick's Day.

Latest Review: Wendell's Pub in Norton

photo of Wendell's Pub, Norton, MAAnother new review is on the Boston's Hidden Restaurants site. The restaurant is called Wendell's Pub, which is on Route 123 in the center of Norton, south of Boston. Wendell's Pub doesn't look like much, but they may just have the best traditional Buffalo-style chicken wings in Massachusetts, if not all of New England.

Goodbye, Hilltop Restaurant (in Braintree)

The Hilltop Restaurant in Braintree, which closed earlier this month, had its plastic cows, cactus sign, and other items go up on the auction block this week. And even though the food at the Hilltop had gone downhill over the years, it was rather sad to see the place torn apart for good. Lots of people have sentimental memories of this place, which had been around for a long time.

Word has it that the butcher shop will open somewhere in the general area, but the restaurant is definitely gone and not likely to return. In its place? Yet another car dealership, soon to come to the South Shore.....

What Is Your Favorite Irish Pub in the Boston Area?

Perhaps this is more of a forum topic than a blog topic, but I am curious as to which Irish pubs seem to be favored by people in Boston. With Saint Patrick's Day coming soon, it would be nice to find a few pubs that people might not know about.

A few that I like include: James's Gate in Jamaica Plain; O'Leary's in Brookline; Spirit in Cambridge; Kitty O'Shea's in Boston; and Tir Na Nog in Somerville (though they may be closing soon).

Let me know about some others that you like!

To celebrate its 3rd birthday this week, Boston's Hidden Restaurants has a new section where viewers can post informations on hidden restaurants in Montreal, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. This entire section will be user-generated, as we are interested in what locals in those cities (or tourists who know where to look!) consider to be good restaurants that are off the beaten track.

If you know of any top hidden jewels in any of these cities, feel free to post to this section. It is open to everyone, and you don't need to register or log in to do it!

Romantic Boston Restaurants

Just a last-minute reminder about our Romantic Boston Restaurants for Valentine's Day page on the Boston's Hidden Restaurants site. Many restaurants are now booked for next Wednesday (Valentine's Day), but it is still possible to find a dining spot that has tables available that night. Some of the restaurants listed on the our page are not very well-known, so perhaps some of them are still taking reservations.

New Steakhouse in Framingham

For those of you who haven't heard yet, Desmond O'Malley's on Route 9 in Framingham has closed, with a new steakhouse taking over the Irish pub's former space. Metro 9 Steakhouse appears to be a mid-priced steakhouse that should do well, since they are smack dab in the middle of a high-traffic area.

Metro 9 Steakhouse is owned by the same folks who owned Desmond O'Malley's, by the way.
