The Boston Business Journal is reporting that Sandrine's Bistro in the Harvard Square section of the city has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, with its assets and lease tentatively being bought by Pierre Honegger of La Voile on Newbury Street in the Back Bay. The article indicates that the restaurant has struggled of late--including a projected loss of $200,000 this year--and that it included in its filing the term "cash-flow crisis" to describe its situation.
It is not yet known what plans might be in store for the Holyoke Street space, though the restaurant is open for now and appears that it will remain so during the transition period.
[March 24, 2015 update: Eater Boston mentions that Sandrine's Bistro will close on March 30 and that the owner of La Voile will not taking over the space after all; instead, the group behind The Asgard and The Kinsale (Classic Restaurant Concepts) is opening a new spot there, and they say it will not be an Irish pub.]
[March 25, 2015 update: The Harvard Crimson states that Classic Restaurant Concepts plans to open a high-end dining spot in the Sandrine's space, with the restaurant opening in May ("in time for Harvard's Commencement").]
Sandrine's first opened its doors in the mid-1990s.
The address for Sandrine's Bistro is 8 Holyoke Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138. Its website can be found at http://www.sandrines.com/
