The New York Times is reporting that the Zagat 2017 New York City Restaurants Guidebook is being published today with a rating system that goes from 1.0 to 5.0 (using decimals in increments of tenths), which is a major change from its old system that went from 1 to 30. The article says that the change was made because Zagat readers "preferred a simpler system" and gives an example showing Le Bernardin having a food rating of 4.9 out of 5.0 rather than 29 out of 30.
It is presumed that Zagat--which is owned by Google--is changing the scoring system universally, including in Boston.
