It looks like a new Indian restaurant is replacing a short-lived Indian spot in Arlington Center, but not without a minor controversy surrounding its name.
The Arlington Advocate is reporting that Rangla Punjab is looking to open on Mass. Ave., taking over the space where Singh Saab resides. The article mentions that original name for the place had been Mini Punjab, but there was concern at a town meeting last month over the similarity of the name to that of Punjab--a dining spot that is basically across the street--so the owners made a slight change to the name which was mentioned in another meeting this week, and the Select Board ended up unanimously approving the restaurant's common victualler and all alcohol licenses.
Singh Saab first opened in Arlington Center in the summer of 2017, replacing another restaurant with "Punjab" in its name--Punjabi Tadka.
The address for Singh Saab (and Rangla Punjab) is 444 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA, 02474.
[July 26, 2019 update: It appears that Singh Saab is now closed, as its sign has been taken down.]
[February 12, 2020 update: According to a source within the local food/drink industry, Rangla Punjab soft-opens this week in Arlington, and it has an ownership connection to both Sher-a-Punjab in Quincy and Shan-a-Punjab in Brookline.]
[February 16 update: A Facebook post from Sher-a-Punjab indicates that Rangla Punjab is now open.]
