A popular men's magazine has come out with its top 20 picks for new restaurants in the United States in 2011, and three Boston dining spots have made the list.
According to the article (which is in their November issue), Esquire magazine included Legal Harborside in the Seaport District, Towne Stove & Spirits in the Back Bay, and Tico in the Back Bay among its picks for best new restaurants in 2011. The list was created based on a number of criteria, with Esquire excluding chains, crossing off eateries that opened before mid-August, 2010, and taking off points for restaurants that don't take reservations and are extremely noisy, while favoring places that are chef-driven and eateries that are "mom-and-pop" spots. The article also mentioned (tongue-in-cheek, most likely) that points were taken off for such items as having "beets-and-goat's-cheese salad on the menu 365 days a year" and "waiters who have more tattoos than at a circus sideshow."
In addition to Legal Harborside, Towne Stove & Spirits, and Tico, Esquire also included five New York restaurants--Ai Fiori, Boulud Sud, Lincoln Ristorante, Millesime, and Salinas.
