El Centro Tres Is Opening in Belmont

The person behind a Mexican restaurant in Boston's South End--and a soon-to-open location in Brookline--is now looking to open another outlet, with this one being in Belmont.

The Belmont Citizen-Herald is reporting that El Centro is coming to Leonard Street in the center of town, with an earlier article from the Belmont Patch stating that it would be going into the former Frame Hut space. According to the Citizen-Herald, the town's Planning Board voted on Tuesday to continue to look into the proposed eatery next week, including discussing issues such as customer traffic, deliveries, disposal of trash, and noise.

[January 29, 2014 update: The Restaurant Hub blog of The Boston Globe mentions that the new El Centro in Belmont--which will apparently be called El Centro Tres--plans to open in late March, and that it also has a liquor license now.]

[June 24, 2014 update: The Boston Globe says that the new El Centro in Belmont is planning to open on Thursday (June 26).]

[July 2, 2014 update: It looks like El Centro in Belmont had a delay in its opening, but now CBH Communications mentions (via Facebook) that the new restaurant opens its doors today.]

Rabiul Islam first opened the original El Centro on Shawmut Avenue in the South End in May of 2011. He is also opening El Centro Dos on Washington Street in Brookline Village. [Ed note: El Centro Dos is now open.]

The address for this Mexican restaurant in Belmont is: El Centro Tres, 66 Leonard Street, Belmont, MA, 02478.
