Weylu's Space in Saugus Sold; Commercial Real Estate Could Be Built at the Site

The site of one of the Boston area's most iconic restaurants has been sold, and new development could be coming to the space, though it is not yet known what will happen to the landmark building.

An article from the Boston Business Journal late last month reports that the former Weylu's space on Route 1 in Saugus was sold for $4 million, with a new article from the Saugus Advertiser saying that the new owner might merge the site with 30 acres located next to it (which is in Revere) and build commercial real estate. The Advertiser article states that there is no word as of yet on whether or not the now-vacant Weylu's building--which is more than 60,000 square feet in size--would be torn down.

Weylu's first opened in the late 1980s and stayed in business for approximately ten years before shuttering. The BBJ mentions that the space became East Manor, then Jin Asian Cuisine, before the space became permanently vacant a few years ago.

The address for the Weylu's space is 20 Bennett Highway, Saugus, MA, 01906.
