ester Is Opening in Ledge Kitchen and Drinks Space in Dorchester

A restaurant in the Lower Mills section of Dorchester is being sold to a new owner, with the plan being to open a new dining spot with a different name in the space.

The Dorchester Reporter confirms what we heard last week, that Ledge Kitchen & Drinks on Dorchester Avenue will be taken over by Eleanor Arpino--who is a former general manager at Davio's in downtown Boston--and several business partners. The article says that the new restaurant will be called ester and that it would be a family-friendly spot offering "contemporary comfort food." It appears that outdoor patio out back will remain in place as well as the 140-seat indoor dining area, according to the Reporter. Depending on how the licensing and permitting process goes, the new eatery could be opening sometime in the late winter or early spring of 2014.

[April 3, 2014 update: An email sent today states that ester plans to open this Saturday (April 5).]

Our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has written about the Ledge in a blog review, with highlights including the lobster roll, burger, brick chicken, and macaroni and cheese, as well as the aforementioned back patio. The review can be found at the link below:

The Ledge first opened in the summer of 2009.
