DePasquale Ventures Planning to Purchase Caffe Pompei in Boston's North End

A restaurant that has been in Boston's North End for more than 50 years appears to be on the verge of being purchased, and it is not known what might happen to the place.

The Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog is reporting (via NorthEndWaterfront.com) that Frank DePasquale of DePasquale Ventures is looking to buy Caffe Pompei on Hanover Street, with the plan being to transfer the beer and wine license to the now-closed Splash on Kneeland Street (note--Splash was supposed to be changed to Bliss, but that apparently fell through) and transfer Splash's all-alcoholic license to the Pompei space while retaining Pompei common victualler license.

While the blog post says that a new restaurant could be going into the Pompei space, there is no confirmation of this as of yet, nor is it known whether DePasquale will retain the Pompei name. (DePasquale Ventures is also behind such spots as Bricco, Gelateria, Mare, Quattro, and Trattoria Il Panino.)

Caffe Pompei first opened in 1962, according to a page within the YellowBot site.

The address for Caffe Pompei is 280 Hanover Street, Boston, MA, 02113.
