Panera Acquires Majority Stake in Tatte Bakery and Cafe

A local group of bakeries and cafes is now majority-owned by a national chain of restaurants known for its soups, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods.

Eater Boston is reporting (via a Twitter post from Ron Ruggless of Nation's Restaurant News and an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch) that Panera has acquired a majority stake in Tatte Bakery and Cafe, which has locations in Brookline, Cambridge (three), and Boston's Beacon Hill. It appears that the deal took place in the fourth quarter of 2015, and while Panera now owns a bit more than 50 percent of Tatte, the shops will continue to be run independently.

The Brookline location of Tatte is currently closed for renovations as it expands its space, as first mentioned by Patrick Maguire of Maguire Promotions & Hospitality Consulting.

The website for Tatte can be found at http://tattebakery.com/
