Cronin Group Affiliate Inks Food and Drink Deal with The Lawn on D

The future of an outdoor event space in South Boston may be a bit brighter now that a major restaurant developer and operator has teamed up with it.

The Boston Globe is reporting that the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority has signed a three-year contract with the Cronin Group's affiliate Rebel Restaurants to operate, and two one-year extensions are part of the contract as well, making for a possible five-year deal with the group. The article mentions that the current menu will be "significantly" expanded and that the Cronin Group plans on getting a liquor license as well, while also spending money on improvements to the space. (The convention center authority will get 15 percent of the gross food and beverage sales.)

According to the Globe, The Lawn on D had an operating loss of $2.3 million loss in 2015, which has drawn attention from the Baker administration and brought about proposals on how to eventually make it become self-sufficient. Previously, food and drink have been available from food trucks as well as an affiliate of the nearby Lincoln Tavern & Restaurant.

The Lawn on D is located at 420 D Street in Southie, which is a short distance south of Summer Street; its website can be found at http://lawnond.com/
