Brothers Marketplace Is Opening in Waltham

by Marc Hurwitz

A local supermarket chain that is getting ready to close one of its locations is also going to be opening an outlet of its upscale neighborhood market concept.

According to a post in the Daily Times Chronicle on the upcoming closing of Roche Bros. in Burlington, the company is also planning to open a new location of Brothers Marketplace in Waltham. An earlier Boston Globe article confirms this, saying that the Wellesley-based chain will be opening Brothers in the Merc at Moody and Main apartment building in the downtown area sometime next spring. Once it opens, the new market will join other locations in Weston and Medfield.

The two Brothers Marketplaces are small grocery stores that focus on fresh foods and regional products; another shop had been planned for Somerville's Davis Square, but it ended up falling through and a location of bfresh (another small-market concept, with this one affiliated with Stop & Shop) opened in the Elm Street space earlier this year.
