SALT Patisserie in Newton Centre to Expand, Opening a New Location in Wellesley

A well-known chef is going to be opening a second location of a local pastry shop.

According to a source (Gary Goldblatt) along with an earlier article from The Swellesley Report, Thiago Silva is planning to open SALT Patisserie in Wellesley, joining the original shop in Newton Centre. A Facebook post from Silva says "Location 2 loading….Wellesley MA! Hoping we get this construction going soon! Permits taking a while, but all things in Gods timing," so this appears to be in its early stages with no opening date given. Based on the Newton location, the new outlet could be offering such options as breads, cakes, cookies, muffins, croissants, prepared items to-go, coffee, and more.

Silva is a pastry chef who was born in Brazil and raised in Queens, being known in part for winning in the Food Network shows "Chopped" and "Dessert Games."

Colette Bakery to Open in Arlington

A trio of French bakeries is going to be joined by a fourth, with this one being in the northwest suburbs of Boston.

According to a poster within The Arlington List Facebook group page, Colette Bakery is planning to open in Arlington, taking over the space on Massachusetts Avenue in the center of town that had been home to Symmes Mini-Mart until it closed a couple of years ago. Once it opens, the new location of the bakery will join others in Boston's South End, Melrose, and Medford, and it will likely offer pastries, baked goods, and desserts.

Colette Bakery was first established in Melrose back in 2022.

The Lobster Pound in Manomet Reopens

A beloved seafood market located in a scenic location on the South Shore is back in business, reopening three years after it shuttered.

According to an article in the Plymouth Independent, The Lobster Pound in the Manomet section of Plymouth is open once again, with the shop reopening under new management on August 10. The article mentions that Tim Mahoney and Ryan Belval, who both come from Island Creek Oysters in Duxbury, are the new operators and are leasing the space, as the Collins family (who ran the business until 2023) still own the building in which it resides.

The reborn Lobster Pound will offer such options as lobster rolls, crab rolls, clam chowder, lobster bisque, shucked oysters, hot dogs, ice cream, and more, and picnic tables are set up outside the place.

Fable Brewing Company in Woburn Has Partially Opened

Last fall, it was reported that a brewer based in the northern suburbs of Boston had found a permanent home for the business, and now we have learned that they are in the first phase of opening. 

According to a source, Fable Brewing Company is in Woburn has partially opened, with the Instagram page for the place saying that they are currently open for tastings while also selling cans to go, and a post from Mass. Brew Bros. mentions that "Although the buildout will take some time, they have entered what they are calling phase 1 which means they have weekly hours for tastings and beer cans to go." Fable was founded by James Sparks in 2020, with the original plan being for the business to open a facility in Burlington.

Brick Street Bagels to Open Brick-and-Mortar Shop in the Former Aurora Market & Bakery Space in Boston's South End

Last month, it was reported that a local bagel business that got its start as a popup in Boston's South End would be expanding to a second storefront, and now we have learned that another location is on the way--and this one will bring it back full circle to where it all began.

According to multiple sources, Brick Street Bagels is planning to open a shop in the South End, with the address indicating that it will move into the space on Tremont Street where Aurora Market & Bakery had been until recently closing. An Instagram post from the business gives more details, mentioning the following:

Brick by brick we've been building in the South End. So many people, places and memories in the neighborhood where this all began. At long last we've found a permanent home here @ 570 Tremont. We are so excited to finally do all that we've been wanting to do here.

Currently, Brick Street Bagels can be found on W Broadway in South Boston, and another is in the works for Charles Street in Beacon Hill, while its bagels have also been available at the Clarendon Street outlet of the South End Buttery.

Momma's in North Cambridge Expands, Opening a New Location at The Charles River Speedway in Brighton

A local food shop that is known in part for its maple creemees has expanded to a second location.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Momma's  in North Cambridge has been joined by a new location at the Charles River Speedway on Western Avenue in Brighton, with an Instagram post from the business saying the following:

We've been working quietly on something special + something small, but a big deal in our little world. We opened our door at the Charles River Speedway [Wednesday] for the first time. We served cones to so many sweeties + saw a lot of familiar faces + talked to so many nice new to us people!....Momma’s here at the Speedway has a BIG soft-serve machine to hopefully pump out the cones! We have lots of non-alc bevvies for sitting on the patio + snacks too, like cheese, maple kettle korn, crackers, shortbreads + heirloom tomatoes (for the summer). We even have paring knives + we hope you’ll make a picnic!

About Thyme to Open in Cambridge's Harvard Square

A brand new Middle Eastern bakery is coming to Cambridge.

According to multiple sources, About Thyme is getting ready to open in Harvard Square, with a Harvard Crimson article mentioning that it will be moving to a space at the corner of Brattle Street and Mt. Auburn Street. The article states that the shop will be a Lebanese fast-casual bakery with seating for 13 people and that owner Taha A. Mikati plans to offer such items such as saj-baked wraps, labneh, coffee, and matcha.

If all goes as planned, About Thyme will open in early August.

Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream Plans to Open in Islington

It looks like a pair of ice cream shops will be joined by a third location.

Based on information from a source and a Facebook reel from the Westwood Media Center, Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream is planning to open in the Islington section of Westwood, with Select Board chair Marianne LeBlanc Cummings saying in the video that the upcoming shop will take over the Juicygreens space on Washington Street and that it hopes to open this summer. Once it does open, the new location of Ron's will join others in Hyde Park and Dedham.

Brick Street Bagels to Open in Boston's Beacon Hill Neighborhood

A local bagel business that got its start as a popup and currently has a brick-and-mortar location in South Boston will be expanding to a second storefront.

According to an Instagram post, Brick Street Bagels is planning to open in the city's Beacon Hill neighborhood, with the post saying the following:

Planting our flag in beautiful BH. Opening Fall '26....So pumped to be offering seating in this space!....Well aware of the proximity to MGH and going to have  early shop opening hours to give the early shift nurses and hospital staff a place to grab breakfast before heading in.....This is a big step for Brick Street. Moving into a new neighborhood on a pricey street with a very expensive ground-up build ahead of us. We hope you can help spread the word and come support once doors open. It is a total honor to be joining the Charles st community and Beacon Hill neighborhood.

Trillium Opens Outdoor Beer Garden at the Connector in Downtown Boston

Last month it was reported that one of the region's best-known breweries opened a waterfront beer garden after losing its seasonal home nearby, and now we have learned that this isn't its only outdoor beer garden in the downtown area.

According to a press release, Trillium Beer Garden at the Connector is now up and running at Winthrop Center Park on Devonshire Street, which is a move of sorts as Trillium previously had an indoor winter beer garden set up at Winthrop Center. The beer garden is open Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM through October and it features beer, canned cocktails, hard teas, lemonades, and seltzers, along with Neapolitan-style pizza from Gatto Pazzo which resides at The Lineup, a food hall within The Connector.

Gori & Co. Plans to Open in Jamaica Plain

It looks like a Japanese shaved ice spot could be coming to a Boston neighborhood.

According to a message sent from Adam Gaffin of Universal Hub, Gori & Co. is planning to open in Jamaica Plain, with a Jamaica Plain News article stating that it will be going into the space on Centre Street that had been home to Bluefin, and before that, Cacao. A NuMarket page mentions the following about the place:

As a cafe dedicated to everything we love about kakigori, we'll highlight traditional and global flavors while experimenting with our own. Kakigori-style shaved ice, along with small bites such as onigiri and spam musubi.

Tipsy Scoop to Open in Boston's South End

A group of boozy ice cream shops with roots in New York City will soon be on its way to Boston.

According to a poster within the South End Community Board Facebook group page, Tipsy Scoop is planning to open on Dartmouth Street, with the website for the business saying, "Boston, get ready to chill responsibly! Tipsy Scoop — the original liquor-infused ice cream brand — is bringing its signature blend of booze and dessert to Beantown!" Once it opens, the new South End location will join others in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, along with outlets in other parts of the country along with the Bahamas.

The Tipsy Scoop website mentions that it infuses traditional ice cream flavors with different liquors, with a few options including vanilla bean bourbon, spiked hazelnut coffee, cake batter vodka martini, and tequila chocolate, while also offering alcohol-free ice creams as well.

Mike's Pastry to Open at Logan Airport in East Boston

A landmark Boston pastry shop that has been expanding to a few locations of late is expanding once again, and this location will be geared toward travelers.

According to a press release, Mike's Pastry is planning to open at Logan Airport, moving into a space at Terminal C and having hours from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM seven days a week. The new outlet will offer such popular items found at the North End location as cannoli, cheesecake, and lobster tails, while also selling ready-to-go items, with the space including a full espresso bar as well.

If all goes as planned, the new location of Mike's will open at Logan later this year.

Tree House Brewing Opens Outdoor Beer Garden at Faneuil Hall in Boston; Indoor Space Apparently to Come at Some Point

Last month it was reported that one of the best-known breweries in New England was looking to open a location in downtown Boston, and now we have learned that part of it is up and running.

According to a Bluesky post from @heyratty.bsky.social, Tree House Brewing Company now has its outdoor beer garden open at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, indicating in the thread that the inside space is still being built out while there is a bar and a "huge" patio outside and that they allow for outside food to be brought in and cans to go are also available. The Tree House website confirms this, showing the new location on the site, and its Facebook page shows a reel from Friday saying "see you *today* and all summer."

In April, it was mentioned here that Tree House had filed a proposal to open in the former Mija Cantina & Tequila Bar/Cheers Replica Bar at Faneuil Hall, with the plans being to operate a brewery and distillery that would also include an outdoor beer garden. The company currently has locations in Charlton, Sandwich, Deerfield, Tewksbury, and a beer garden at the Pru, along with a farm in Woodstock, CT, and a taproom in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Trillium Garden Opens at Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf in Boston

Earlier this year, it was reported that a popular outdoor beer garden would not be returning to the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston, but now we have learned that the brewery behind the beer garden has opened a new seasonal space a very short walk away from the old space.

According to the Boston Harbor Hotel website, Trillium Garden is now open at lower patio of the hotel at Rowes Wharf, moving into a space with water views and offering beer on tap, wine, and cocktails while also serving some snacks as well. The new beer garden is very close to its old space, which is home to a beverage garden from Boston Harbor Distillery this summer.

New City Microcreamery Opens in Chestnut Hill

Last fall, it was reported that a local group of ice cream shops was expanding to a space where another ice cream shop had been, and now we have learned that it has debuted.

According to a source, New City Microcreamery is now open in Chestnut Hill, with the social media pages for the business confirming that it is now up and running in the former White Mountain Creamery space on Commonwealth Avenue by Boston College. The new location joins others in Hudson, Cambridge's Central Square, Arlington, and Sudbury, while a seasonal popup has also opened at Bolton Orchards in Bolton.

New City Microcreamery first started out in Hudson in 2015 while White Mountain Creamery debuted back in 1983.

Union Square Donuts Is Opening at Derby Street Shops in Hingham

A growing local group of donut shops will be expanding once again, and this will be its first location south of Boston.

According to an Instagram post from the business, Union Square Donuts is planning to open in Hingham sometime this summer, moving into a space at the Derby Street Shops just off Route 3. Once it opens, the new location will join others in Somerville, Brookline, Boston, Cambridge, and Lynnfield, and it will offer donuts, coffee, tea, cinnamon rolls, and more.

Essex County Brewing Company Opens Taproom at Alfalfa Farms in Topsfield

A North Shore beermaker has opened a taproom within an historic space.

According to multiple sources, Essex County Brewing Company has opened at Alfalfa Farms in Topsfield, with Facebook posts from the business saying the following:

We are still shaking our heads and are wondering what just went down this weekend!! We are so grateful for old friends and new that joined us in the rain on Saturday and again on a sunny Mother’s Day!! A new bakery appears to be on its way to the western suburbs of Boston.

According to a post within the jobs section of the bostonchefs.com website, Lucky Stars Bakehouse is planning to open in Concord, saying in the listing that it will be "a new, mission-driven gluten-free bakery focused on baking a variety of breads and other baked goods (cookies, bars, etc.)." The address shown within the listing leads to a residential section of town while the website for the place is not yet up and running; as soon as an exact address and any other information is given in the place, we will post an update here.

Mighty Squirrel Brewing Co. to Open Biergarten at Gore Place in Waltham

A local brewery is going to be setting up an outdoor beer-drinking space at an historic site in the western suburbs of Boston.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Mighty Squirrel Brewing Co. is getting ready to open a biergarten at Gore Place in Waltham, with the 60,000-square-foot space debuting on Friday, May 8 and running through October. The biergarten will be open Thursday through Sunday and will include an 80 x 30 foot tent while offering beers on tap along with hard seltzers, hard smoothies, non-alcoholic beers, and food truck dining options such as clam chowder, wings, birria poutine, salads, harvest bowls, lobster rolls, smash burgers, tikka masala, saag paneer, and more. (Live music will also be part of the plans.) Mighty Squirrel does note that because Gore Place is a working farm with animals, dogs (other than service dogs) are not allowed.

Gore Place is an historic mansion and museum just off Route 20 that was built in the early 1800s and was a summer home for Massachusetts politician Christopher Gore.
