Morse Fish Company in Boston's South End Is Up for Lease

by Marc Hurwitz

The future of a landmark seafood market and cafe that has been in business for more than 100 years appears to be very much in question.

According to a Twitter post from restaurant critic and food/drinks writer MC Slim JB, Morse Fish Company in Boston's South End is up for lease, with a note on Facebook telling us that a "For Lease" sign is indeed in the window of the Washington Street business. It is not yet known how much longer the market will remain open--or if someone might try to keep it in business--so keep checking back for updates.

Morse Fish Company first opened in 1903, according to Zagat, with the market offering such items as haddock, shrimp, scallops, clams, oysters, salmon, crab, lobster, calamari, swordfish, mussels, tilapia, and more.

The address for Morse Fish Company is 1401 Washington Street, Boston, MA, 02118

[May 14: According to a note sent by Patrick Maguire of Maguire Promotions & Hospitality Consulting, it appears that Morse will close in late May or early June.]

[May 25 update: A new message from Patrick Maguire indicates that Morse Fish Company closes today.]
