T.G.I. Friday's in Woburn Closes; Nickel's Grille to Open in Its Spot

A restaurant in Woburn that is part of a global chain of family-friendly dining spots has closed its doors, and a new independently-owned restaurant will soon be opening in its place. T.G.I. Friday's closed its Mishawum Road location over the past few days and work is now beginning on a new restaurant called Nickel's Grille. According to someone involved with the new dining spot, it should be a few weeks before Nickel's Grille opens its doors, as the space is being renovated. [December 16 update: Nickel's Grille is now open. It opened last week for dinner only, but as of this week the restaurant is now serving both lunch and dinner.]

T.G.I. Friday's currently has eight other locations in the Boston area, including ones in Boston (Brigham Circle), Everett, Braintree, Dedham, Stoughton, Danvers, Norwood, and Framingham.

As we get more information on Nickel's Grille, including hours, menu items, and prices, we will post updates here.

This restaurant is awful. The butter was tasteless, the sweet and sour sauce was watered down and the ribs were fatty and disgusting. Our waitress talked to my wife and I like we were in kindergarten. Never going back!

Sorry you feel that way "The Woob" but we had a great time there. The steak tips were cooked perfect and nothing was tasteless or watered down at all. I thought the waitstaff was very professional. Maybe you were spoken to like a kindergardener becuase you act like one! (sounds it form your temper tantrum post!)

As a notorious Woburn eatery frequenter, since I work there, I have eaten at all the chains/restaraunts in the area. Nickel's service was quick and our waitress was very pleasant, informative and prompt. We ordered only appetizers. The Jamaican jerk wings were phenomenal(although they could come up with a unique dipping cheese was ok but something to better blend with the jerked wings spices would be even better). The chicken tenders were big, flavorful, hot and well, tender. The chicken nachos were perfect. Each chip already had cheese, jalapenos and chicken on it and a heaping portion of salsa and sour cream in the middle. No messy plates, naked chips or wasted toppings anywhere. What a great idea!! The beer was served fast and the glasses clean and chilled. All around a great experience and me and my work crew will be there all the time. Can't wait to try their main courses. This place might even be classy enough for me to bring a date.

I agree with The Woob. This is hands down the worst restaurant in Woburn. I got the fish and chips, but couldn't tell if the weird taste was coming from the fish, or because the place still reeks of paint from the crappy white paint job.

It is clear that they buy the cheapest food they can get from their distributors. Nothing is fresh, terrible renovation, terrible ambiance, I give it 3 months tops.

Medicinalmunk, if you are serious about bringing a date to this place, it is likely to be your last.

This restaurant is amazing! The Woob and Ben, you guys are a bunch of jokes. I can only imagine you guys kno nothing about this place and for fact the place is nicely painted and the fish (haddock) and chips is phenominal. I would recomend this restaurant to anyone. Overall Grade A

Right up front, I haven't been to this place yet, so I freely admit that I have no idea how good (or bad) they are. However, what has caught my attention is not so much that there have only been three 'positive' reviews out of five. Rather, it's the fact that two of them appear to be written by management.

As someone who eats out nearly every day (disclaimer: this includes fine dining to fast food), I've read more than my share of restaurant reviews. Yet rarely do I see someone who is partial to an establishment so blatantly insult commenters who feel otherwise. Really, why would they care so much that someone else thought the food or service was subpar? There's only one reason why these individuals could have been so offended. You write your review, you move on, but normal folks do not take an opportunity to attack other people simply for sharing an opinion that differs from their own.

Not to mention, how would anyone not affiliated with Nickel's know "for fact" the quality of the paint job? Why, were you one of the contractors that worked on the building? Come on now, too, it was a legitimate comment (fumes from fresh paint can linger; how someone referencing this possibility equated that into a rebuttal about the actual quality of the painting is a line I can't even draw). Regardless, I can't recall ever having so much to say about somewhere I hadn't visited yet, which is pretty much my point. That I've already been turned off by the suspect posts.

Plus, it wasn't lost on me that we saw Dawn eagerly inviting everyone to come visit after the grand opening (which is perfectly fine, of course), so unequivocally the staff (or owners) are not only monitoring this thread, but are not above posting here.

I have yet to go there either but I've been hesitant because TGI Friday's closed, and then Nickel's opened REALLY FAST right after it so I was wondering how that happened. Makes sense if you can smell paint because it was a rapid opening. I live in the area so I might check it out just because I'm curious. What's the price range like??

Yeah it really did open quick. The first time I went was in the snow storm, and were turned away because try closed early (good idea for a new restaurant right?). But they were open for a good 3 weeks or so before we went and yet still smelled terrible. To answer your question though.... :)

The prices are reasonable but certainly not worth it. They seem to just use the lowest end items and charge normal prices. It would be ok if they at least had mid grade food but not the case. Hopefully your experience is better than ours.

nickels is a franchise of TGI Fridays, the closed it down to reopen as a independant but they are the same company pretty much. you guys i think are just very immature and would rather start fights with eachother then give a sophisticated and well mannered review of this place. why dont you go play xbox live and argue like all the other 10 year olds

yes i have and it is equal with every other restaurant at its level, i.e fridays, 99s, applebees. every place has its pros and cons and i think that their food quality is all about equal. you want to try some places that are very well try an olive garden or a macaroni grille. they are phenominal

Wow, what have I started here? I'm a part-time bartender at Nickel's Grille and not a manager or owner. I can't believe how hostile some of you are towards us on this post. To answer some questions, it is the same owners as Fridays, but this time its their own resturant and not a franchise. The same owners and most of the same staff. Despite all these negitive posts, the restaurant is doing great and people are loving it. I'm sorry if some of you had bad experiences. I do know that if you are unhappy, they bend over backwards to try to make it up to you. You just need to tell them. We really are trying to run a great restaruant. I love working here :-)
