A restaurant and bar in Maynard that a former Boston Celtics player opened about a year ago has morphed into a new spot.
According to the restaurant's website, Johnny Ray's has replaced Jo Jo's West, and it looks like the new place is a restaurant, sports bar, and entertainment center. Former Boston Celtics guard Jo Jo White had opened Jo Jo's West early last summer, moving into the space on Route 62 where Christopher's Restaurant and Wine Bar had been. The new spot is owned by Johhny Ray, a native Bostonian and Las Vegas entertainer.
The menu at Johnny Ray's includes such classic American dishes and pub food as chicken wings, clam chowder, Alaskan king crab legs, grilled ribeye steak, blackened chicken breast, hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza. Entertainment and events include DJ dance parties, Sinatra Sundays, wing night, singles night, and poker night.
The address for this new restaurant and bar in Maynard is: Johnny Ray's Ultimate, 86 Powder Mill Road (Route 62), Maynard, MA, 01754. The phone number is (978) 461-2110. And the website can be found at: http://johnnyraysmaynard.com/

[November 17 update: According to My Fox Boston, Johnny Ray's closed earlier this month. A check on the restaurant's website indicates that it may be looking to open in a new location. If/when it does, we will post another update here.]
