Magnolia Bakery May Be Coming to Boston

A popular bakery in the Greenwich Village section of New York that has been branching out of late is apparently looking at Boston as the possible site of one of its upcoming locations.

According to the Village Voice blog, Magnolia Bakery on Bleecker Street in the Village is planning to open new branches of its shop in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Long Island, and New Jersey, with possible openings in Chicago and Boston as well. The bakery, which recently opened shops on Columbus Avenue in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Rockefeller Center, and Grand Central Station--as well as one in Los Angeles and another in Dubai--is known primarily for their cupcakes and "icebox desserts" (including mini cheesecakes), but also features cakes, pies, brownies, cookies, and muffins.

[May 16, 2012 update: A quick update to this story--Eater Boston is reporting that Magnolia Bakery still does want to come to Boston "one day," but they aren't saying anything else at this point, so don't expect an outlet of their shop to arrive in Beantown anytime soon.]

Magnolia Bakery first started out in 1996, building a following through the years which has included its being mentioned in several movies and television shows.
