A famous New York City restaurant and bar that has been in business for nearly half a century is going to be closing its doors later this month.
According to the New York Times, Elaine's on 2nd Avenue in the Upper East Side of Manhattan will close for good at around 4:00 AM on May 27. The article mentions that the person who inherited the eatery when owner Elaine Kaufman passed away in late 2010 decided to shut the restaurant down because of "financial reality." (Some workers at Elaine's mentioned that business seemed slow after the passing of Elaine Kaufman, according to the New York Times.)
Elaine's, which first opened in 1963, has been a well-known spot for people-watching over the years, with many celebrities frequenting the place, including Robert Altman, Norman Mailer, Gay Talese, and Woody Allen, according to an earlier ABC News article.
The address for this soon-to-close restaurant in the Upper East Side of Manhattan is: Elaine's, 1703 2nd Avenue, New York, NY, 10128.
