It appears that some supermarkets have decided not to carry a Vermont-based ice cream company's new flavor, and it could be because of its rather quirky (and to some, controversial) name.
According to the Huffington Post, Ben & Jerry's "Schweddy Balls" ice cream is not being carried at some markets, including Quincy-based Stop & Shop (though the chain has not given a specific reason for not having the flavor on their shelves). The article mentions that a group called One Million Moms has been pressuring stores to resist carrying the item, as they believe that the name is inappropriate for children. A Ben & Jerry's spokesperson did mention, however, that Schweddy Balls is currently one of their most popular limited-edition flavors.
The name for the ice cream comes from a 1998 Saturday Night Live skit starring actor Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy, a baker who made such items as popcorn balls, rum balls, and Schweddy Balls.
