A well-known chef who temporarily left the Boston area to set up a pop-up restaurant on the Cape is planning a new pop-up, with this one being closer to Boston and within a college campus.
According to the Boston Magazine Chowder blog, Will Gilson is working on a new pop-up restaurant that will be held at Newbury College in Brookline, where he is currently teaching a course to culinary students. The article states that the pop-up will basically be a final project for the students, with the temporary restaurant focusing on inventive takes on dorm food (grilled cheese sandwiches, ramen noodles, soft-serve ice cream, etc.). Expect this new pop-up, which will be held at The Mitton House, to take place in December, with tickets being available in a month or so.
[November 17 update: According to Grub Street Boston, the pop-up restaurant at Newbury College will take place on Monday, December 12 at 6:00 PM, with tickets being available now. A few of the items on the menu will be a mac and cheese pop-tart with goat cheese; spaghetti "ohs" with herbed meatballs, piquillo pepper sauce and pecorino romano; and cereal-milk panna cotta with cocoa-krispy treat and melted ice cream sauce. Tickets cost $50 and can be ordered at http://collegepopup-estw.eventbrite.com/]
Will Gilson and his Eat Boston business partner Aaron Cohen have helped create a number of pop-up restaurants in the Boston area over the past year, including ones at the Mizu Salon in the Back Bay, the Boston Center for Adult Education in downtown Boston, Taza Chocolate and Bloc 11 in Somerville, and Mohr & McPherson in the South End. Over the past summer, Gilson worked at a large-scale pop-up restaurant at Adrian's Restaurant in Truro on the Cape, leaving Garden at the Cellar in Cambridge in order to do so.
Newbury College is located on Fisher Avenue in Brookline, a short distance south of Cleveland Circle.
