Is Sake Sake Going to Be Joining Maki Maki in Allston?

Last year, we reported that an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet restaurant was on its way to Allston, with the place opening possibly opening this winter. Now we have gotten word that a Japanese restaurant with a very similar name may be coming to the same section of this Boston neighborhood.

According to the EveryBlock Boston site, Sake Sake Japanese restaurant has received a business license this week to open at 304 Western Avenue. This comes about 11 months after it was first announced that Maki Maki was planning to open at 370 Western Avenue. Both addresses happen to be within the space of the former Brighton Mills Shopping Center (and the upcoming Charlesview Residences at Brighton Mills), which begs the question "Did Maki Maki move and change its name?" or perhaps "Are these actually two completely different restaurants that happen to have very similar names?" Only time will tell.

As soon as we find out more about Sake Sake (as well as Maki Maki), we will post an update here.
