Flying Saucer Pizza Company Is Opening in Salem

The folks behind an eclectic cafe on the North Shore are going to be opening a pizza shop nearby with a rather unusual name.

An article from the Salem Gazette last month mentions that the Flying Saucer Pizza Company will be opening in Salem, taking over the space where a branch of the Upper Crust Pizzera used to be. The people behind the Washington Street pizza place also happen to run Gulu-Gulu Cafe, an Essex Street eatery that features live music, DJs, open mic, old films, and book and poetry readings. According to the article, Flying Saucer will offer pizzas using organic ingredients, and there will be vegetarian and vegan options among the pies. The Gazette says that a bar is planned for the space as well (which will have a "'50s sci-fi flavor"), with the owners looking to serve beer and wine.

Expect a summer opening for Flying Saucer.

[December 3 update: According to one of our readers, Flying Saucer opened late this summer.]

The address for this upcoming pizza shop in Salem is: Flying Saucer Pizza Company, 118 Washington Street, Salem, MA, 01970.
