A message from one of our Twitter followers indicates that the Beacon Street Tavern is shutting its doors on Tuesday, April 16 and will reopen as a different kind of dining spot under the same ownership. This has been confirmed by a phone call placed to the eatery, with the person there mentioning that it would be closed for about a month before reopening with a new "theme." The Twitter poster told us what the new concept might be, but until we receive the official word from the restaurant (or it gets posted publicly), we will hold off on saying what it might be.
[April 22 update: According to several sources, including a poster on the Chowhound site, Beacon Hill Tavern is now closed and it will be replaced by a new spot from the same owners called Mission Cantina.]
[May 2 update: Eater Boston reports that this is the same Mission Cantina that has a restaurant in Amherst. EB also says that as posted earlier here, the new eatery will be under the same ownership as that of the now-closed Beacon Street Tavern.]
[June 4 update: UrbanDaddy states that the new location of Mission Cantina in Brookline is now open.]
The Beacon Street Tavern has featured a mix of tradition and modern American fare since opening approximately seven years ago, with such dishes as macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, steak tips, fish and chips, and roasted chicken offered. The owners of the Washington Square Tavern (also in Brookline) had originally been behind the Beacon Street Tavern before the two places split (thanks to food writer MC Slim JB for this last bit of information).
The address for the new Mission Cantina is 1032 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA, 02446.
