Grendel's Den in Cambridge's Harvard Square to Remain Open

Last week we reported that a landmark restaurant in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge decided to close its doors at the end of the year due to the landlord selling the building. Now we have learned that another dining and drinking spot in the building will be staying put, putting any rumors to rest about its future.

Cambridge Day is reporting that Grendel's Den on Winthrop Street will remain open, unlike its neighbor UpStairs on the Square, which will shutter forever after a grand finale celebration on New Year's Eve. The article says that the restaurant has a lease that apparently goes through 2017, with owner Kari Kuelzer saying that they have no plans to leave for the foreseeable future.

Grendel's Den first opened in 1971, while UpStairs on the Square opened in 1982 as UpStairs at the Pudding.

The address for Grendel's Den is 89 Winthrop Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138. Its website is at http://www.grendelsden.com/
