Boston.com is reporting that McDonald's in Central Square now has a walk-up window, making this the first of its kind in the Greater Boston area from the chain. The article says that these windows are commonly found at locations of McDonald's in large cities such as New York and Chicago, but until today, none had been found at shops in the region. [Correction: According to several sources, including the readers below, the now-closed McDonald's on Union Street across from Faneuil Hall had a walk-up window as well; so while the Central Square location is the only one in the area with a walk-up window at the present time, it is not actually the first.]
The walk-up window at the Mass. Ave. location of McDonald's had its grand opening at 10:00 AM today, according to boston.com.
