Clover Food Lab Is Opening in Former Hi-Fi Pizza Space in Cambridge's Central Square

It looks like the people behind a number of vegetarian food trucks and brick-and-mortar restaurants in the Boston area will be opening a new spot in one of Cambridge's busiest neighborhoods, and it will be taking over the space where a pizza place and sub shop had been for more than 40 years.

Cambridge Day is reporting that Clover is eyeing the space in Central Square where Hi-Fi Pizza & Subs was until closing in March, with the article saying that it could be a 24-hour restaurant if the city gives its approval. The proposed Mass. Ave. eatery will join other brick-and-mortar locations of Clover in Inman Square, Harvard Square, and Kendall Square in Cambridge, and in Brookline and Burlington, along with a number of Clover food trucks set up in the Boston area as well.

[July 23 update: A new article from Cambridge Day mentions that the License Commission has approved of Clover opening a 24-hour eatery in the former Hi-Fi space, though Clover managers will need to meet again with the city three months after the planned late-fall opening to make sure the late hours aren't attracting any trouble.]

[April 1, 2015 update: According to a press release, the new Clover in Cambridge's Central Square will be opening on April 22, and it will indeed be a 24-hour spot that features a late night menu. In addition, its name will be CloverHFI in honor of the now-closed Hi-Fi Pizza & Subs.]

[April 22, 2015 update: An email from Clover indicates that the new 24-hour location in Central Square opens today at noon, and today is Free Sandwich Day (until they sell out), with all proceeds going to CSA scholarship for low-income people in the square. On Thursday, the new spot will have an open house with coffee and donuts in the morning (no food will be for sale), while Friday will be the first 24-hour day.]

The address for the new Clover restaurant in Central Square is 496 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02139. Its website can be found at
