Hilltop Steak House Property in Saugus Remains Up for Sale; No Takers Yet

More than nine months after closing its doors, a landmark restaurant on Route 1 in Saugus is still up for sale, with the property having no takers as of yet.

The Boston Globe mentions that the site of the former Hilltop Steak House remains locked up and off limits, with its parking lot chained off and "no trespassing" signs displayed in the windows of the 70,000-square-foot structure. The article says that the property is still on the market, and can only be set up for commercial uses, such as another restaurant, a hotel, a retail shop, etc., with mixed-use zoning (a residential and retail complex, for instance) not being allowed under the current zoning rules. The property is assessed at $8.2 million, according to the Globe.

The Hilltop Steak House closed in October of 2013 after being in business for more than 50 years. Its butcher shop in Weymouth remains in operation.

The address for the former Hilltop Steak House property is 855 Broadway (Route 1), Saugus, MA, 01906.
